Chicken Head


I've been listening to this book on my 90 minute drive everyday to work and then again on the way home. Well not just one book, this is one in the long stream of books. This one just got me thinking about the term chicken head. I've used that term over and over as a funny little term, something like stop being so silly you chicken head or you are walking like a chicken head. 

In the book by Philip K Dick Blade Runner, originally called 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' There is a character with slow intellect who is often refereed to as 'chickenhead'.  The character J.S. Isidore is left behind while the rest of humanity leaves the ruined earth, others like him who are slow or elderly are also left. Then there are those who chose to stay. But I digress. 

What's interesting to me is the use of the word. It was published in a book in 1968 with a derogatory meaning and it's still used in that fashion, only toward women. In the book it was for a person of a lower IQ, they refereed to them as special. The use of the word actually took shape with the hip hop music industry in 1997. Happiness in the Tummy

It's been a few weeks since I gave up the PPIs and I am happy to report some great success. I felt like at one point I was going to have to go back on them. Changing my diet in small simple ways really did make a huge difference. I reduced a lot of butter. For example I now cook the potatoes in my instant pot , use Yukon golds instead of baby reds and chicken broth for the base. This softens them up and since I'm using yukons they are creamier I only need a sliver of butter. For breakfast I love my egg but hard boiled is just not my thing. The pan fried was too much on my gut so I used Jamie Oliver's technique (from YouTube) for poaching.    I have to keep practicing on the poaching. Ha! This is how they turned out:

GERD - I feel like I'm underwater looking up

I read once if you change everything at the same time then you are setting yourself up for failure. Diet books I've read and the few nutritionists I've seen all generally agree on this topic. So then why do I feel like I'm all consumed and drowning in information? I have to break this down so I'm not drowning all the time. I decided start simple and track what I eat.  Its hard for me to use the phone apps because of all the little nuances so I'm going to keep a simple paper journal. The format will be: I ate:     at this time and date: I was doing and felt: for example: Today I ate 2 fried eggs in a tblspn of olive oil and a slice of swiss cheese. I had 2 packs of ritz cream cheese crackers and 12 oz of coffee with 2 raw sugars and 2 tblspns of half and half. The right meal

Tonight's meal needs to satisfy the hunger of 4 adults. Of these 4 adults one is a diabetic, one works as a ship fitter and should probably eat a lot more calories then he does, one of us is a long boarder and only likes meat. Than there is me. I have a gluten insensitivity (boy do I try to pretend I don't), GERD and have been told by the doctor; "you are on the verge of being a diabetic" and "you now should eat an anti-inflammatory diet". I've done a great job of ignoring all of this advice and running away for the last few months. My body really hurts, my family is starving and moody. It's up to me to figure this out. Well I'm taking it on since I understand how food works. GERD is the thorn in my side.
